Description

This hand-carved soapstone calico cat stands with its tail held high, creating a lively little companion for a desk, bookshelf, bedside table, or cat-themed collection. Black, orange, and cream patches wrap around the body, while painted eyes, pointed ears, pale paws, and a curved striped tail give the figure its distinctive personality. Because each cat is individually carved and painted, slight differences in shape, markings, and pigment make every piece unique. Its smooth, weighty stone form can also be used as a decorative paperweight.

Soapstone is a smooth, talc-rich metamorphic rock traditionally associated in metaphysical practice with calm, grounding, emotional balance, adaptability during change, and clear or creative thought. Cats add long-standing symbolism of independence, intuition, curiosity, and watchful awareness, while calico cats are often connected with good fortune in folklore. This carving is made from locally quarried Kisii soapstone by a Kenyan fair-trade artisan cooperative whose community work supports living wages, children's schooling, and an orphanage.
