Description
This hand-carved soapstone raccoon brings plenty of woodland personality to a shelf, desk, nature display, or collection of animal figures. Its softly rounded body features a speckled gray and cream surface, a bold black eye mask, a striped tail, pointed ears, and a glossy dark nose. Each raccoon is shaped and finished by hand, so small differences in carving, pigment, and pattern are part of its individual artisan character. The substantial stone form can also serve as a decorative paperweight.
Soapstone is a smooth metamorphic rock composed mainly of talc. In metaphysical traditions, it is commonly associated with calm, grounding, emotional balance, flexibility during change, and clear or creative thinking. The raccoon adds symbolism of curiosity, adaptability, and resourcefulness, making this carving a meaningful reminder to explore wisely and work with what is available. It is carved from locally quarried Kisii soapstone in Kenya by a fair-trade artisan cooperative whose work supports living wages, children's education, and an orphanage.
